Do Western Diets Contribute to Acne Breakouts?

We all know that diet can be major factor contributing to acne and unwanted skin problems and Western diets (especially fast foods) can be an area of concern for sufferers and doctors alike. Diet basically means chemicals and minerals that we take everyday to provide us with energy and stamina like carbohydrates, proteins, minerals and vitamins.

Different types of chemicals have different effects on our body. What we eat is how we look and feel. A healthy diet should have the right amount and types of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, a good amount of fibre and sufficient vitamins and minerals. An imbalance in any of these components can lead to skin conditions. Good water intake is also essential.

Certain elements are not good for skin like fatty food and processed foods. Western diets particularly involve many such elements. Sugars in softdrinks, fat in fried food, poor quality oils in bakery items, many toxic chemicals in all processed foods are major problems for the skin. Intake of such foods contribute to excessive oil secretion and blocked skin pores which in turn lead to excessive bacterial growth and finally acne.

Nowadays due to time constraints people are getting dependant on fast foods which are overstuffed with fats. High amount of fat is not only unhealthy for skin; it can also lead to weight gain and serious heart conditions. Western diets also involves a large amount of red meat like beef, pork and lamb. Red meats are high in fats, and increases body metabolism and is not good for skin at all. Any food which increases body temperature is not healthy for skin.

This obviously does not mean that you would not take them for lifetime! You can have everything in limited quantities and rather not make it a habit to have junk foods everyday. People also indulge in drinking lots of coffee and soft drinks. Soft drinks and coffee contains caffeine which is a stimulant and is not good for your health especially skin.

Have you ever wondered why Chinese people rarely get acne on their skin? The main reason is their diet. They take a diet which is low in fats, high in fibre and they take every thing boiled. They take food as it is without much frying or processing in fats and that’s the main reason why their skin texture is very good without any acne or pimples.

If you really want to have healthy acne-free skin, you should try to have everything raw. If that’s not possible, then try to use the minimal amount of fats and oils to cook. Include lots of green vegetables and fruits in your diet. Even if you have food which is high in fats make sure you work out enough to burn them off as quickly as possible. A healthy natural diet will go a long way in ensuring that you have a clean and clear skin!
