Get Rid of Acne Through Yoga


With many health practitioners promoting an all-natural routine today, more and more people are living a healthier lifestyle. A remarkable discovery that is being talked about today is how yoga can treat acne!

Yoga has long been known to be able to help in losing weight and treating depression. Now, some studies show how it can help cure a variety of ailments, including skin disorders like acne. Although yoga cannot address all known causes of acne like heredity, it is known to be able to address other causes quite remarkably.

Yoga originated in India and is derived from the Sanskrit word yuj which means “to control” or “to unite.” As adapted, yoga is the integration of all aspects of an individual – from his mind, body, and soul - in one action or series of actions. Yoga has long been hailed as a great re-aligning tool that frees the body from stress, anxiety, and deep worries. And stress, as has been shown, is one of the major culprits of many ailments today, including the development and aggravation of acne breakout.

There are many yoga poses that are said to release stress from the body. These postures include standing forward bends and inverted postures like the Uttanasana (standing forward bend) and Salamba Sarvangasana (supported shoulder stand) followed by deep relaxations. All these are known to improve blood circulation in the face while flushing away various toxins.

Apart from its ability to act as an effective stress reliever, Yoga also has positive effects on general bodily functions. It is able to improve the immune system which promotes healthy responses of the skin against bacterial and fungal infections. Yoga also stimulates the efficacy of vitamin C intake in the body, a vitamin that is also known to help reduce acne infections.

Yoga is also believed to control blood glucose levels, decrease sodium in tissues, and maintaining good cholesterol levels; all of which are factors that can lead to acne breakout and edema. It can also reduce the risks of long term scarring of the skin and weakening of the pores. Yoga also provides anti-ageing properties because it is able to increase serum protein content in the body.

It is important to note, however, that the physical process of participating in yoga can expose your skin to possible contamination from dirt and bacteria in assuming the various postures. You should always clean your yoga mat so that it does not infect your face upon contact, and remember to wash your hands before touching your face.

As in any regime, practicing yoga intermittently or once a month will not provide relief from acne. If you expect to see results from your efforts, you will need to follow a regular pattern of yoga posturing (daily would be ideal), and also ensure that you follow common sense practices by keeping your skin as clean and free as possible of oil buildup.

If you follow these steps, practicing yoga will not only give you healthier and glowing skin, it can also make you healthier and stronger all over.
